Avalanche star Cale Makar signs largest contract in NHL history
Cale Makar and the Avalanche agreed to an eight-year, $163.2 million deal, the richest contract in NHL history. The two-time Norris Trophy winner will earn $20.4 million annually starting in 2027-28, keeping the elite defenseman in Denver through 2035. Makar signed just before a new collective bargaining agreement limits future extensions to seven years.
